ILLEGAL MOVES(REVISED 2018)

Illegal Moves (Revised 2018) This is an article that I had to completely revise after the changes in the laws of chess (2017/2018). The main reason to this was the fact that illegal moves no longer can be defined as those that are not in accordance with article 3. Also, illegal positions do not produce illegal moves. The reason I had originally created a list of cases when the arbiter must intervene is because before the 2014 changes, the laws of chess did not oblige the arbiter to intervene in specific situations. Gradually we see that the laws change to make the arbiters more active than passive. Whether that is a good or a bad thing, history will sh...
